Frankford’s Storyland in Lights

Friday, November 8, 2019

Furley Elementary

5001 Sinclair Lane, Baltimore, MD, USA

The event is a two-day event celebrating light and literacy. We will create a festival-like experience that will include local entertainment, an illuminated food court, activities for children of all age and a light installation.

The concept is based on the historical connection between light and literacy. Before there was safe lighting in the home when the sun went down everything stopped. Having light in a home created the opportunity of people to have more enriching experiences in their leisure hours. The history of Baltimore as Light City arises from the fact it was the first city in America to have gas street lights. And Rembrandt Peale (Peale Museum/founder of BGE) added gas lights to his museum so that working people who weren’t able to visit during daylight hours would also be able to experience the art and attractions in his museum. The installation will feature a tall lamp, built from the ground up, to hang over the right side of the entryway area.
